My, what a maaaaaaaaahvellous book, dahling!
Another great recommendation by my dear Kurt, this book has it all: 1920′s glamour, New York City, hilarious dialogue and witty observations from a boys point of view. The coming of age story of Patrick Dennis who moves to NY to live with his eccentric aunt Mame after his father dies, remembered by himself as a grown up man. Whatentertained me most were Patricks impressions of his New Jersey girlfriend Bubbles, whose language reminded me of Chandlers girlfriend in Friends.
An incredibly smart book written in 1955, which I then found out, has been made into a musical and a film (starring my beloved Bea Arthur and Lucille Ball), both highly successful in the US. Unfortunately not available in Germany, but you can find clips on Youtube.
As always, you can order the book here and support my favorite bookstore in its battle against the devil a.k.a. Amazon.
